Aug 4 - Left Clay and Megan’s before 11 on Sunday to begin the drive back to the farm. Love driving the back roads and Tom “knows” the back roads as he dislikes driving the interstate! After returning to the farm Joni and her mom went on to Sara’s to help Aubree, mostly with moral support, as she baked rye bread for the Iowa State Fair. Tom of course went to check on produce pruning tomatoes, picking cucumbers and watering. Watering each tomato plant 25 seconds and pepper plants 10 seconds each! Yep! He counts it out! I picked cherry tomatoes. Next I suggested switching the leveler off the Kubota and attaching the mower since it wasn’t frightfully hot. It says it is a “quick switch” but it is definitely not! We did it in record time of about 30 minutes. It has taken as long as 90 minutes.
Aug 5 (Monday) - Today was my 2nd chiropractor appointment for sciatica, hoping it helps but think it might take a couple more times before I leave the farm next week. This afternoon I took the tractor mower, Tom took the zero turn zipper to Auntie Mavis’ farm to mow, last done 3 weeks ago. Did it in record time of about an hour! I will miss mowing…until next year!
Aug. 6 (Tuesday) - Delaney arrived early this morning for a couple of days of painting with grandma! I know it will be a special time for both of them making great memories and great conversations. Morning chores including a run to Storm Lake for groceries return to the farm and put groceries away. Then headed for an afternoon visit with Auntie Mavis and got to see her most recently completed quilted panel wall hanging. Beautiful! She amazes me!
The evening was pretty relaxing as Delaney made Monster Cookies in which half a recipe which she made calls for 6 eggs plus oatmeal, Rice Krispies, M&Ms, Reese’s pieces and more! Oh so good! The cookies weren’t actually the best part, best part was the conversation Delaney and I had about her work as Asst Manager at Hy-Vee a promotion, conversations she needs to have with her supervisor and how to do it! Delaney is a very talented, kind, thoughtful, conscientious and ambitious young lady at age 18.
