June 19 - Life on the Farm - Morning chores were complete “almost” without incident, keyword “almost”! Then Rukus the rooster caught me off guard with a few pecks on my lower leg! Darn rooster!
Today’s big chore was cleaning the chicken coup and putting down new shavings! Happy chickens mean eggs for breakfast, lunch and supper! Team Bekah and Karol punched it out in record time of 36 minutes!
One more score to report today - Eggs Collected: Dally the Dog = 0, Karol = 10
The day also included a nice afternoon mile walk down the country road, about my limit as I struggle a bit with foot issues. The return trip was at a quicker pace as a rain shower began. I continued at my slower pace while Bekah, Raylee and the dogs “picked up the pace”. Beautiful day as high was only about 68 degrees. I’ll be wishing for more of that kind of weather in future days as today 6/20 will be 88, future days in the 90s up to 99! If you know me you know that IS NOT my kind of weather! Enjoyed helping Krayton tonight after supper reinforce the new confined area for the chickens to have just outside their coup. Really nice set up but not sure how much the chickens will appreciate the new layout! They have been enjoying the run of the farm, but this will protect them from other critters. Oh and to be honest I wasn’t that much help to Krayton but he was gracious to let me “think” I was helping!
The evening was spent peppering Krayton with questions about leasing cows, drilling (planting) hay cane used for cattle feed, as well as learning about the diverse farming of cattle, corn soybeans, wheat and hay cane.
