June 21 - Big Day!

Big day because it was my first time riding along to drill cane AND Raylee Joy turned 1 month old today!

Rode several rounds with Krayton in a John Deere 8270R. He was so gracious to put up with all my questions. First thing I noticed is that he had it on auto pilot but I remember him saying when I rode with him last July during wheat harvest that he likes to actually drive the tractor and not use auto pilot.  I learned today that when “planting” the GPS auto pilot can be more precise, thus while drilling/planting forge sorghum (cane) seed he was using the auto pilot! Makes sense! Krayton uexplained how the drill worked drilling to a depth of 1”, rows 7 1/2”apart, 1.2 million seeds per acre. He was drilling a small plot of 50 acres. That is a lot of seed planted!

We talked planting, drilling, harvest, land, equipment, cattle, cattle feed and so much more!

For supper we had Swedish pancakes with fresh strawberries or my favorite granulated sugar courtesy of the Swede in the house!  After dinner we loaded up and headed to Krayton’s parents just 10 minutes down the road for a game of Pegs and Jokers! I’ve never played before but it was a fun evening, with lots of laughs with his parents, sister and brother-in-law.

Oh, a score to report on eggs collected: Dally:2, Karol: 8! Would have been Karol 10 but Bekah let the dogs out when she went outside and didn’t go check on eggs first! Dally on the other hand went directly to check on the eggs and help herself!!!

Driller at work!

That’s Krayton and Bekah’s farm in the distance.

Driller used to plant forged sorghum, back to the farm to load more seed.

Baby Raylee Joy at one month! Total sweetness except for between the hours of 5-7pm.

Aunt Karol’s treat tonight- Swedish pancakes for supper with choice of strawberries and whip cream, syrup, powdered sugar and lemon juice, or the Aronson favorite of butter and granulated sugar!
