July 14- Casual Sunday Worship

This morning all 12 of us piled in two vans to head for 10am worship at the Albert City Covenant Church. It was supposed to be outside but due to the high temperatures it was decided it would be better to hold service in their fellowship hall which was then followed by an indoor picnic!

Mid afternoon Amanda left with her 3 kiddos and Joni took Sara’s 4 kiddos home and to VBS. After supper Tom invited me to go with him to check the feed corn in Uncle Melvin’s fields about 4 miles away. We drove along the road, examining the spraying that had been done and could see it was working, then out on grass roads leading out to the fields continuing to look over the field and see where attention was needed along the edges to kill more weeds. Then a drive through Albert City, by his sister Julie and Gary’s and we could see they were home so dropped in for a unannounced visit and an opportunity to meet their 6 month old grandson, Garrison.

Including pictures as too much to write and I am quickly falling further and further behind in writing!

First three pictures of treehouse being built by grandsons Avery and Owen.

That is an old levelor that in its day would be attached to mold board plow but TODAY is serving as the ladder, except one of the screws came loose! So with Avery stuck in the tree house Owen went running to hunt up a longer screw and washer to re-attach it. Note it serves pretty much like a ladder but it only has the frame on one side of the rungs! But really very clever! How they got it up there I don’t know cuz it is very very heavy!

Our group of 12 walking into church.

Building to the left is The Station left untouched with only a concrete wall stopping a fire that destroyed the building next door just a couple months ago on a Sunday morning.

Garden notes:
Last Friday they harvested 500 garlic and put them on the trailer and left out to dry.
Last winter Tom tapped 4-5 of Uncle Melvin’s maple trees. Got 4 gallons of sap a day from one tree for 2-3 weeks. Can tap a tree once a year. Tom has tapped 12 of his own maple trees with lots to go! Tree needs to be 50 years old/12 inches in diameter to tap!
